Film Review: Girl, Interrupted
This film is a 1999 adaptation of Susanna Kaysen’s memoir. It tells about her 18-month stay in Claymoore Hospital after taking an overdose of aspirin. It was directed by James Mangold, starring Winona Ryder as Kaysen, with a supporting cast that includes Angelina Jolie, Brittany Murphy, Whoopi Goldberg and Vanessa Redgrave.
I felt I was shot when Mrs. Owens spilled this following line…
"You are lazy self-indulgent little girl who is driving herself crazy!”
…’cause I reflected myself with these words for Susanna in a way that I loose confidence on the things that I want but still doubting how and why I should reach those. She’s very talented but unsure. She also had her flashbacks that keep influencing her present behavior. It was like a blurred kaleidoscopic mirror.
The movie had made me realize that crazy people are just insane, with an exception, because it’s their way of closing their doors of the real world which they can’t actually manipulate. It’s like an open field, with no doors at all. All you need to do is to keep on walking.
